It has been nearly 15 years since I last put together a website to showcase my work. A lot has changed since then.
I was a different back then. I was a student. I was young and naive. I was also ambitious and idealistic. Looking back I could probably learn a thing or two from that guy. On the flip side, he could learn a lot from me.
The web was different back then. There was no streaming video, Facebook was for college kids, and Amazon was still a bookstore. SEO meant sketchy backlinks, web rings, and hiding keywords on your page. Google hadn’t yet dominated search and email and online advertising. The web was an infant, and so was my career.
I was fortunate enough to learn from some amazing mentors, and unfortunate enough to learn from some hard knocks. These experiences coupled with some good ol’ fashioned American Midwest work ethic have given me experience in nearly every facet of branding and marketing.
In a way this site was 15 years in the making. I am still a student, but I’m older and less naive. Now I’ve moved thousands of miles (or kilometers I suppose) from my friends and family. Away from the comforts of home to make a new home in a place that has inspired some of the most brilliant adventurers, and writers, and artists that ever lived. I’m excited for the things I will learn in this incredible new place.
